LEGO Cakes
Where was this recipe when I turned 30? I reckon this is pretty awesome, a recipe from Betty Crocker to make cakes that look like LEGO blocks...
I should attempt to make these for the little one's birthday next year... ;)

we haven't had an apple vs. microsoft post in a while
Apple is so lame and so childish that the icons it uses in Leopard for networked Windows PCs are CRT displays with a Windows blue screen of death. (See this image for details.)
You see, Leopard has its own blue screen of death. And it's happening to an alarming number of people who buy the new OS and install it on their Macs. Apple has been forced to acknowledge the problem and even use the term "blue screen" to describe it. And they've posted a fix, well, really more of a workaround, that involves an insane serious of UNIX terminal commands.
Have fun with those blue screens, Apple. My advice: Describe this as feature number 301. Heck, you might be able to wrangle 3 or 4 new features out of it. :)

does she turn for you ?
THE Right Brain vs Left Brain test ... do you see the dancer turning clockwise or anti-clockwise?
If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.
Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.

top this "first day at work" incident !
At the end of my first day, I back out of my parking space and accidentally hit a Lexus parked behind me. Oh great, my first day at work, and I dent somebody's fancy car. I leave a note of apology on the windshield, with my name, email address, phone number, and a promise to pay for whatever repairs are necessary.
The next day, I come to work, and I have a new email message.
From Bill Gates.
Oh my God, I dented Bill Gates' car.
Fortunately, he said not to worry about it.

luring couch potatoes to go biking
Trek and Giant and Raleigh are building some new bikes that are designed to be very simple, fun, easy to ride. They want to bring back the fun memories of riding as a kid. I love the look of Trek's Lime. It would be perfect for nipping to the shops etc.

Google dude likes having his photo taken
and he has gotten quite a decent list of known faces to have their photo taken with him at the googleplex. "Tan Chade-Meng, a geeky fellow with a big smile"
http://picasaweb.google.com/chademeng is his gallery
Even the NYT has an article on him
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/01/technology/01google.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin
Way to go Mr. Tan.At Google, Mr. Tan has a reputation as a top-flight engineer. But he is also known for his fondness for one-liners and for being a regular contributor to the company’s online humor groups. The job title on his business card reads: “Jolly Good Fellow (which nobody can deny).”
“In my free time, I do engineering,” he said.
Mr. Tan gets tips by e-mail or phone a few days before a famous person arrives. No one has turned him down yet.

the ultimate cup of coffee
seems that you can get a cup of Kopi Luwak near Townsville. I wonder if I'll ever get to try a cup, and if it will spoil coffee forever for me. That is the only place in Oz you can get such a cup, apparently.
... my brother in law took me to the Heritage Tea Rooms in the beautiful Hervey's Ranges thirty minutes drive from Townsville. The owners of this establishment Allan and Michelle Sharpe sell a unique cup of coffee. It comes from the feces of Indonesian civet cats.

a joke to make you smile.
I was in my car, and I was driving along, and my boss rang up, and he said 'You've been promoted.' And I swerved. And then he rang up a second time and said "You've been promoted again.' And I swerved again. He rang up a third time and said 'You're managing director.' And I went into a tree. And a policeman came up and said 'What happened to you?' And I said 'I careered off the road.

Maxwell Fornah and Victor Musa, members of the Single Leg Amputee Sports Club of Sierra Leone, play football in Freetown, Sierra Leone, April 6, 2006. There are more than 6,000 amputees in Sierra Leone as a result of the brutal civil war. The Single Leg Amputee Sports Club of Sierra Leone has played against disabled players in Brazil, and hosted the disabled football championships in Sierra Leone in February 2007.

from http://www.australianit.news.com.au/story/0,24897,21981850-15306,00.html
The network announced that when it screens the next series of Heroes and Prison Break later this year, the episodes would be broadcast as close as possible to their US screen debut.
It will also offer time-shifted viewing on the TiVo digital video recorders it will launch next year, and it plans to further develop its Yahoo7 website.
Seven's corporate affairs director Simon Francis said Heroes and Prison Break were the two most downloaded shows in Australia, but stopped short of blaming the phenomenon for a drop in viewers.
